Amanda and Elyot can’t live together and they can’t live apart. When they discover they are honeymooning in the same hotel with their new spouses, they not only fall in love all over again, they learn to hate each other all over again. A comedy with a dark underside, fireworks fly as each character yearns desperately for love. Full of wit and razor sharp dialogue, Private Lives remains one of the most successful and popular comedies ever written.
Charlotte and George Hay run their own touring theatre company. Their 1953 tour takes them to Buffalo with a repertory consisting of Cyrano de Bergerac and Private Lives. Fate has given these thespians one more shot at starring roles in The Scarlet Pimpernel epic and director Frank Capra himself is en route to Buffalo to catch their matinee performance. Will Charlotte appear or run off with their agent? Will George be sober enough to emote? Will Capra see Cyrano, Private Lives or a disturbing mixture of the two? Hilarious misunderstandings pile on madcap misadventures in this uproarious comedy
The age-old tale of Boy-Meets-Girl and the complications which ensue intrigue every audience, and no musical puts it on stage better than Anything Goes. This show is an amusing story wrapped around a magical score by Cole Porter, which includes “Friendship,” “I Get A Kick Out Of You,” and the title song, “Anything Goes.” What a wonder that all the romances are sorted out and disaster is averted aboard the magical ship where Anything Goes!
We are proud to be a resident theater company of the premiere performing arts center in the Southern Tier of New York. Learn more about the Clemens Center.
